I'm continuing my quest to find a time and cost-effective way to bring color to the 'Night Craft' series. I'm hoping to find a technique that really achieves the look I have in mind for the comics. I think I'm getting closer with this drawing, basically just a colored sketchbook drawing. I want the line work to convey a lot of the shading and texture, just use color to back that up and set the atmosphere of the piece. I'm also a big fan of strong highlights, so that's coming through better with color. And yes, I am a dinosaur, so using a noise filter helps me achieve that grainy, laserdisc image quality that I hope will work nicely for the stories.
I just finished another page to the follow-up story to "Kiss Me Deadly". This one is being published by Hellhound Media. See more of their books at their website!
Here's a story I found in a writing notebook from about thirteen years ago. I guess it was just time to finally illustrate it. There's probably some Martian Chronicles influence, though mine probably lacks all of the depth of Bradbury's classic. Hopefully it's a fun little story one can read in a couple of minutes.
It's been added to my short comics section with its own page here. Pen & Ink on Bristol board with letters and tiny black dots added by computer. Fonts by Blambot. Really short stories are the hardest thing for me to come up with. I found this story in an old writing notebook from a few years back and decided, what the heck, I'll illustrate this one. I've got two more pages to do, add some inks and maybe some tones. And words too! Then it'll be done and I'll have it uploaded to the site!
These are the pencils to a currently untitled Night Craft short story. I hope to have this one finished soon and I'll be giving it away at conventions as well as posting it on this site. It's not quite the story you would expect given its post-apocalyptic setting, but should still be enjoyable...
