A small selection of what popped up in a recent sketchbook. Some of these will turn into characters, comics, and finished illustrations...

The pencils to two of the five pages of a new story I'm working on...
This is a personal piece I recently finished. It's loosely based on a comic book I drew as a teenager. That book was pretty bad, but this depicts the one interesting scene.
This is a quirky, and kind of dark, five-page story I came up with. It's all drawn, and readable, but I'm still working on inking and coloring the pages. This was all drawn on Bristol board, and hand lettered.
These are two recent illustrations, each a potential part of a larger story. These were drawn by hand in pen and ink, colored in Affinity Designer.
A new drawing of Cera, the star of my comic series. This is pen & ink with digital color.
A novel I helped illustrate has just been published! This was a very interesting and involving process as I had to research and recreate the look of the ancient Roman Empire. Altogether 28 pen & ink illustrations were created for the book. I've posted a gallery below of some of the stages of the development of the images.
Check out the novel itself here! This is some of my progress on the ninth issue of "In The Shadow Of The Wasteland". I'm returning to hand lettering with this story. I know lettering by hand is the skill I'm weakest at, but I imagine my best shot at getting better at it is to simply keep doing it.
These are some Halloween-themed coloring book pages I recently drew in Affinity Designer. The orange line drawings are the sketches I used to base the vector drawings on. Please feel free to print these pages out and color them in!
The eight issue of In The Shadow Of The Wasteland (formerly Night Craft) is available now on Comixology.
This issue features the story "Disappearance At Dragon's Death Hill" as well as "It's A Very Green Future", written by Roger Crooks. Download a copy here! This is a project I've been working on. If it all works out, it will develop into a continuing series/introductory bumpers for the various stories that appear in each issue of "In The Shadow Of The Wasteland" (formerly Night Craft).
The graphic novel collection of the first seven issues of Night Craft, put out by AAM-Markosia, is now available on ComiXology for download! Click here to go to the order page.
These are some personal pieces I've recently completed. They're all done in pen and ink with color added in layers of acrylic washes.
I used Daler & Rowney paints on a couple of these, deviating from my preferred brand of acrylics, Liquitex. They seemed to work pretty well for what I was trying to achieve. I hope to do a lot more like this in the future. Using actual paints and developing a style with them really helps influence how I handle digital painting software. |
