I should have something to read next Tuesday, and probably some blog posts before then!
These are the thumbnails to a yet-to-be-drawn "Night Craft" story. Very much a rough draft, it is still readable at this stage. I think a finished version will need to be fleshed-out a bit more; it needs a more isolating atmosphere and more insight into the protagonist's psychology. perhaps even a little sappy symbolism could be added if I worked in a sunset on the last page. I should have something to read next Tuesday, and probably some blog posts before then!

So I just got this idea a fews days ago. This website needs comics, and it needs them on a regular basis. So why not every week?
The idea is this: evry week, Tuesday, to be exact, I'll post some form of comics for you to read. Some weeks it will be a full comic book. Sometimes just an excerpt. Sometimes it will be something old, and likely unseen, from the vault. And often it will be a sketched out, but readable, rough draft of a comic that has yet to be finished. Please enjoy this weeks entry, The Worst Breakfast. A rather silly tale of two kids and their grandparent's tragic visit. It still looks like Night Craft will become a color series next issue! Here are some pages from one of the stories that will be featured in that issue. If all goes well, this issue should be out in the all!
I'm starting to do thumbnail versions for many of the potential stories I have for "Night Craft". I'll post these since it will be an easy way to keep some fresh material coming to the site. These stories are very far from a polished, finished comic, but they are readable, and an interesting step in the process of making a comic book. The first one's only two pages long, so it's posted below, as well as in the comic book library page.
I'm working on the 8th issue of Night Craft which should be out later this year. Looks like it's gonna be in color too!
The seventh issue of "Night Craft" has been sent to the printers, so until the print copies are available for sale I'm going to have it on the site for you guys to read! This issue has two science fiction stories, utilizing two very different approaches to the artwork. Hope you like it and let me know what you think of it in the comments! The print edition is now available for sale here!
A couple of pages I recently finished inking for Hellbound Media's "Dawn After Dark" three-part story...
I'm working on putting together the from and back covers for the seventh issue of Night Craft. It's not done yet, but should be finished soon!
A new pencilled page for Hellbound Media's Dawn After Dark story, "The Dogfather". Lots of perspective and pipes in this one!
This is a new illustration I just completed. It was drawn in pen & ink on a 9 by 12 piece of Bristol board. It was colored in Affinity Photo, primarily using watercolor brushes.
This is basically another take on a character, Dirk Evigan. One day, he will get a comic book, but for now he continues to pop up in the occasional illustration. The library continues to grow! "You Can't Go Home" is a self-contained science fiction story I drew back in 2000. It's been pretty much unseen since then, and only published in a slightly altered form, in a very low print run. I drew this right before I went to art school, so it kind of got lost in everything that was going on at the time. It's far from great, but I've kind of grown to like it, over the years. Hope you guys enjoy it to!
You can view it as a gallery of images, or as a PDF. The PDF is large, but a looks better. Click here to see it! I've finally gotten the second installment of Ancient Comics With New Covers (almost) ready to go. I've renamed the series as Night Craft Retro as these stories are my early writings that would evolve into Night Craft. I should have this one up in the next few days!
A recently pencilled page to the Dawn After Dark miniseries "The Dogfather". To be published by Hellbound Media.
A couple of current projects: A horror-themed digital painting and a sketch that may turn into a finished drawing. I've still got a ways to go on the paining, it's about a third of the way complete. The sketch book page is also part of some brainstorming for a future sci-fi themed issue of Night Craft. If that ends up going somewhere, I'll do a post and tell a little story about it...
I don't play video games that often, but when I do, it is most likely on a retro console, and most often a Turbografx or PC Engine. And that love affair started in 1990 when I got a Turbografx for Christmas.
I recently dug up this "treasure" I drew back in 1991. It's the start of a comic book sequel to a game called Veigues Tactical Gladiator. There were some cut scenes towards the end of the game that really fleshed out the story, and I kind of wanted to keep that story going. I believe I only got three pages in and did a mostly unfinished cover. I think I also started a fan comic for Bonk's Adventure around the same time, but I don't recall how far I got with that one either. Hope you guys enjoy this look back at some very early comic book pages. I promise new art for the next post! |
